The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been rampant.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for the new season differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Could Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
