Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team reach places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
